Volunteer
The KMSTC is an independent, registered charity. We not only rely on donations to run the Centre, but also upon the time, skills and dedication of our many volunteers. Volunteering can be a very rewarding experience and can be a great way to meet new people and make new friends. Our volunteers are held in very high regard at the Centre and we see them as an important part of our team.
We need your time
Here are some examples of volunteering at the Centre.
Fundraising Collectors
We hold supermarket and street collections throughout the year which can raise a huge amount of money. Volunteers are needed to collect for us for a 1 - 2 hour period. Collections are all held locally so please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it at the Centre to see if there is one near you that you would be willing to help with. Forthcoming 2012 collections are:
Morrison's Canterbury 3rd March
Asda's Ashford 31st March & 1st April
Sainsbury's Canterbury 15th April
Morrison's Herne Bay 21st & 22nd April
Help Out at a Fundraising Event
We often need volunteers to help at many of our fundraising events during the year. Tasks range from running stalls at sales,to marshalling at various events. We also need people who are able to assist with setting up equipment for our stalls at outside events. Perhaps you could enter a team in one of our Quiz Nights, bake a cake for us to sell at our various cake sales, or help out with our monthly Big Breakfast event.
Organise your Own Event
Why not run a raffle or organise a 'dress down day' at your office or local pub, or organise a Quiz Night or a Coffee Morning in aid of the Centre. If you are a keen runner or walker why not organise your own sponsored event. The Centre can supply you with flyers and posters. You could create you own fundraising page on JustGiving or Virgin Money Giving websites where supporters can donate on-line in support of your event. See our Events and Fundraising page for more details.
Oxygen Therapy Operator
We run Oxygen Therapy sessions on a daily basis and are always looking for willing volunteers to join our friendly team of operators. Operators usually cover one day a week from 9am - 4.30pm. Full in-house training is given with regular updates once or twice a year.
It is very important that we provide a welcoming image to members and visitors at the Centre. This is sometimes difficult due to the nature of our current building but we always need an extra pair of hands to keep the area around the outside of the Centre clean and tidy.
Receptionists
The Centre’s reception is covered on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday by a paid employee. We are looking for volunteers to cover the reception desk on a Monday and a Friday and for periods of sickness and holiday. Covering the reception desk can be a great way to socialise and to develop practical skills. Ideally the person would need good communication and IT skills.
Website Manager
We are currently looking for a volunteer to help manage the Centre's website to ensure it remains current and up to date. If you have website management skills we would love to hear from you. Our webiste is managed in a programme called Joomla.
Grant Application Administrator
We are currently looking for a volunteer to help with making applications to Grant Making Trusts for revenue costs. The person would be working in co-ordination with 2 other volunteers in the same role. The days and times could be flexible and carried out at home if preferred. The volunteer would be required to attend meetings at the Centre approximately every two months. Previous experience of making grant applications would be desirable but not essential.
Publicity Officer
We are currently looking for a volunteer to fill a Publicity Officer Role. This is a brand new role and would involve raising public awareness of MS and the Centre through local media and by liasing with local businesses and organisations.
Other Tasks at the Centre
We occasionally require people to help with tasks or projects which we are involved with at the time. Volunteers may be needed to print our quarterly newsletter, fill envelopes, co-ordinate information, help with photocopying etc. If you think you could help, we would love to hear from you.
We are always willing to accomodate younger volunteers who are taking part in their Duke of Edinburgh award and need a charity placement. We will also accomodate work experience students.
Trustees
Trustees are Members of the Management Team which runs the centre. We always need people, ideally with some experience of management in an organisation.
